The Obama Drinking Challenge
So, the title of this post is a little out of context, but it does make for an attention grabber, eh?
The Set-Up
Last Friday, my buddy Ant and I went to grab a drink after returning from a road trip in Virginia. Twenty minutes later this lady pulls up to the bar around the corner and over the course of trying to find the name of some other bar, name-drops she’s working for the Clinton campaign. So I bite and start talking politics with her.
While she seemed to need some sleep and had a raging case of ADD, she was passionate about her candidate; this is probably a good quality to have. She said she had a Public Relations background, worked for the campaign and was in the mid-state doing fundraising.
Now, Ant is on the fence over who to vote for, where I’m pretty locked on Obama for the primary. So his position was that he’s heard from Obama, meaning he’s gotten phone calls from Obama representatives. Why should he vote for Hillary?
Our new friend immediately launches in to a long-winded anti-Obama speech.
“Obama stands for this.”
“Obama doesn’t have that.”
Yadda, yadda.
Numerous times we interrupted her to try and put the focus back on “Why Hillary,” not “Why not Barack?”
We eventually got to her more focused on Hillary’s plans and positions and settled into a decent discussion. We would have stayed longer to have a longer conversation with her but had to run. She did take our contact information and has promised to invite us to a fundraiser. We’ll see.
The net result was that Ant says the ball’s now back in Obama’s court because someone from the Clinton campaign has now sat with us in a social setting and engaged us in a conversation about the issues. Where’s Obama’s representative?
The Challenge!
Between now and April 21st, we want someone from the Obama campaign to meet with us for at least one hour in any bar in Lancaster County. Ant and I have appointed ourselves the most important voters in Pennsylvania. Barack himself doesn’t need to show up, although that would be impressive. We do however want someone being paid by the campaign who can speak on all the issues to meet with us and whoever else happens to be there. We’ll even pay for the drinks!
We’ve heard from the Hillary people; it’s your turn Barack. Everyone else who’s reading this, can you help us make this happen?

- Hillary PR grunt here in bar bashing Obama to me and @antthelimey

- Listening to this Hillary woman us like sitting through a pitch meeting for a bad Oliver Stone film?

- @icelander Going out with us isn’t much different than being around babies: we’re unruly until someone brings us our bottles (of beer).

The Raconteurs: Consolers of the Lonley
The follow-up album from one of my favorite bands was released yesterday. The Raconteurs “Consolers of the Lonely” got some press for being released just two weeks after the band completed it and being available without all the typical record industry hype-tactics.
So how is it? You can go plenty of places for music reviews; that’s not my thing. In my opinion, much like their debut effort: “Broken Boy Soldiers,” every listen brings out something new to notice and like. The sophomore outing is certainly worth your valuable cash. I’ve been listening to it non-stop since picking it up.
Highly recommended!
